FICP Names Jamie Murdock as President
Chicago—Financial & Insurance Conference Professionals (FICP) today announced the appointment of Jamie Murdock as president, following a national executive search led by the organization's Search Committee and Board of Directors.

Murdock joins FICP at a pivotal time for the meetings and events profession, bringing more than 25 years of hospitality and meetings experience and a strong record of organizational leadership, industry engagement and relationship building. He comes to FICP from Maritz, where he most recently served as managing vice president of sales and industry presence, a role he held since 2016, after previously holding senior sales and leadership positions across the sector.

In partnership with FICP's Board of Directors, Hospitality Partner Advisory Committee, members, hospitality partners and the FICP staff team from association management partner Smithbucklin, Murdock will advance the organization's strategic priorities and further strengthen the value FICP delivers to the financial services and insurance meetings and events community.

"Jamie brings the leadership experience, industry perspective and collaborative approach we were seeking in FICP's next president," said Lori Allen, chair of the FICP Board of Directors. "Throughout the search process, he demonstrated a deep appreciation for our community, a commitment to our mission and a thoughtful vision for building on the strong foundation that generations of FICP leaders, members and partners have created. We are excited to welcome Jamie to FICP and confident his leadership will help us build on that momentum for our association and the broader industry."

Murdock's initial priorities will include strengthening member and hospitality partner engagement, advancing professional development opportunities and elevating industry thought leadership. As president, he will help operationalize the association's strategic direction, support long-term organizational growth and serve as a key ambassador for FICP within the meetings, events and hospitality industries.

Murdock's broader meetings industry experience complements FICP's continued commitment to the specialized needs of meetings professionals within financial services and insurance companies and the hospitality partners who support them. His industry relationships and perspective will help FICP advocate for, connect with and advance this highly focused community while remaining grounded in the association's distinct member base.

"I am honored to join FICP and excited to serve such a highly engaged and respected community," said Murdock. "FICP has a remarkable legacy, a deeply committed membership and hospitality partner network, and tremendous momentum for the future. I look forward to listening, learning and working alongside the Board, our members, partners and staff team to build on that success and continue advancing the profession."

Murdock will begin his role as president on September 22.

Members, hospitality partners and industry stakeholders will have an opportunity to meet Murdock at the 2026 FICP Annual Conference, taking place November 15-18 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. The association's flagship event will bring together financial and insurance meetings professionals, hospitality partners and industry leaders from across North America for education, relationship building and discussions that will help shape the future of the profession.

Ottawa secures IIMC 2029 as Canada's capital continues to attract major international conferences

Destination Canada's International Convention Attraction Fund supports high-value association win for Ottawa.

Ottawa Tourism has announced that Canada's capital has been selected to host the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) 2029 Annual Conference, further strengthening the city's position as a leading destination for international association meetings with meaningful economic, professional and community impact.

Taking place from 20-23 May 2029, the conference is expected to welcome 1,000 delegates to Ottawa, generate 2,991 total room nights, and deliver an estimated CAD $2.8m in economic impact for the city.

The successful bid was supported by Destination Canada's International Convention Attraction Fund (ICAF), a national programme designed to help Canadian destinations compete for and secure high-value international conferences. For Ottawa, the IIMC win represents not only a major piece of future business, but also a powerful example of how national support, local collaboration and destination alignment can come together to attract events that matter.

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks is a global professional association dedicated to supporting municipal clerks through education, professional development, networking and the exchange of best practice. Its annual conference brings together municipal professionals whose work is central to the effective operation of local government and civic administration.

The win highlights the importance of ICAF in supporting Canadian destinations to compete internationally. By adding a national layer of strategic support to the bid process, ICAF strengthens the destination offer and helps ensure that Canada remains highly competitive in attracting conferences that deliver economic impact, sector alignment and long-term value.

Chris Shalby, Executive Director, International Institute of Municipal Clerks said: “Ottawa provides a unique stage for IIMC’s annual conference, its status as Canada’s capital delivers both professional relevance and global profile for municipal clerks. From accessibility and hospitality to civic leadership and policy expertise, Ottawa offers compelling value for delegates. The city’s beauty, commitment to being more sustainable, and amenable conference costs, supported by Destination Canada and the International Convention Attraction Fund (ICAF), made Ottawa an outstanding choice for IIMC 2029.  The collaborative approach from Ottawa Tourism, Destination Canada, and local partners reinforced our confidence that every detail will be designed for our delegates’ needs. Hosting IIMC in Ottawa will foster connections between our attendees and Ottawa’s municipal, federal, and community context, driving professional development and lasting impact."

Virginie De Visscher, Executive Director, Business Events, Destination Canada added: “Congratulations to Ottawa Tourism on securing the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) 2029 Annual Conference, and to IIMC for choosing Canada. This win reflects the strength of Ottawa’s collaborative approach, its compelling value proposition for business events, and Canada’s global reputation for delivering sustainable, high-impact meetings.  Through the International Convention Attraction Fund (ICAF), Destination Canada is proud to help destinations like Ottawa compete for prestigious international organizations whose events drive economic growth, knowledge exchange, and long-term sector development. With a renewed $15 million investment over three years, ICAF continues to be a catalyst in elevating Canada’s competitiveness on the global stage, helping convert strong bids into successful outcomes that create lasting benefits for communities across the country.”

Supporting the win, The Honourable Rechie Valdez, Canada’s Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism) said: “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Ottawa Tourism and the City of Ottawa on the winning bid. This achievement reflects Canada's growing reputation as a premier destination for international business events and highlights the strength of collaboration between local tourism partners and the Government of Canada. Through the International Convention Attraction Fund, administered by Destination Canada, we're helping Canadian destinations compete for high-value international conferences that create jobs, support local businesses and deliver lasting economic benefits. We look forward to welcoming IIMC delegates to Ottawa in 2029 and showcasing Canada's leadership as a world-class destination for meetings and events.”

IIMC 2029 follows a growing number of ICAF-supported successes for Ottawa, including the recent International District Energy Association (IDEA) Annual Conference & Trade Show, which took place at Rogers Centre Ottawa in June 2026. That event brought an estimated 750 delegates to the city, generated 1,825 total room nights, and delivered an estimated CAD $2.9m in economic impact.

The IDEA event also demonstrated Ottawa's ability to attract conferences connected to areas of genuine local and national strength. With district energy, clean technology, public infrastructure and sustainability all closely aligned with Ottawa's public, private and academic sectors, the conference provided a platform for international knowledge exchange while showcasing work already underway in Canada's capital.

Champlain Restaurant Celebrates 100 Years of History

Tides of Terroir: A New Experience Along the Saint-Lawrence River, Inspired by Samuel de Champlain’s Journey

Quebec City—As it celebrates its 100th anniversary, the Champlain, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac’s signature restaurant, is unveiling a new river-inspired dining experience rooted in local terroirs and guided by a spirit of hospitality that brings people together. Honoring a century of culinary tradition, the Champlain is reinventing itself through a concept that revisits the journey of Samuel de Champlain, brought to life by the cuisine of Chef Tristan Ratcliffe Lambert and his brigade.

At the heart of this new vision is the St. Lawrence River, which serves as the primary source of inspiration. It guides a gastronomic journey through Québec’s terroir, celebrating the bounty of its river and sea alongside  exceptional culinary craftsmanship. This renewed approach further establishes Champlain as a must-visit culinary destination.

Over the coming months, a series of new offerings, events, and exclusive experiences will accompany this new chapter, celebrating both the Champlain’s 100-year legacy and its future.

THE RIVER AS A GUIDING THREAD

At Champlain, the St. Lawrence River is far more than a breathtaking backdrop. It is the source of inspiration behind a culinary approach that extends to the diverse regions and communities along its shores. Seafood and fish, a hallmark of Chef Tristan Ratcliffe Lambert’s cuisine, are showcased through a gastronomic philosophy that celebrates seasonality, the authenticity of local ingredients, and the richness of Québec’s terroir.

“I have always been inspired by regions and cuisines that tell the story of their land. At Champlain, the St. Lawrence River provides a natural connection between these landscapes, producers, and areas of expertise. Tides of Terroir is our way of sharing this richness with our guests, one plate at a time,” adds Tristan Ratcliffe Lambert, Chef of Champlain at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

Inspired by the spirit of exploration of Samuel de Champlain, after whom the restaurant is named, the discovery menu retraces his journey along the St. Lawrence River. Through six distinct chapters, The Gulf, The Estuary, The Fjord, Île d’Orléans, Québec, and The Territory, it invites guests to explore the landscapes, flavours, and traditions that define the region. Fishermen, oyster farmers, growers, livestock producers, cheesemakers, foragers, and local artisans play a central role in this culinary vision, which celebrates the provenance and quality of ingredients while bringing contemporary techniques into dialogue with tradition.

“Champlain holds a unique place within our culinary offering here at the Château. The St. Lawrence River is its primary source of inspiration, and the restaurant serves as a showcase for our gastronomy, allowing both local and international guests to discover the very best of Québec’s terroir,” says Simon Renaud, Executive Chef at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, who works alongside Chef Tristan Ratcliffe Lambert in bringing this gastronomic experience to life.

Signature dishes, including the iconic tableside Lobster Wellington, embody this approach while preserving the art of service that has long defined Champlain’s identity. Epicurean guests can also experience this tribute to the river and Québec’s terroir at their own pace through an à la carte menu that allows them to create a personalized culinary journey. True to the spirit of inclusive hospitality that defines Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the menu can also be adapted to accommodate individual preferences and dietary restrictions, ensuring a tailored experience for every guest.

THE ART OF HOSPITALITY, REIMAGINED

The connection to the St. Lawrence River and the surrounding territories extends to every detail of the experience. From menus crafted with Manicouagan marine clay to the monumental suspended sculpture by artist Marc Bouchard, inspired by the topography of the St. Lawrence River, every detail pays homage to the river and the territories that surrond it. At the table, river-inspired linens, cutlery evoking shoreline pebbles, and utensil rests fashioned from copper reclaimed from the Château’s former roof extend this narrative, creating a dining experience deeply rooted in place.

The journey continues through a cocktail and non-alcoholic beverage program inspired by the region’s natural riches, alongside a curated wine selection enhanced by Riedel glassware chosen specifically for each varietal. In the background, a carefully curated soundtrack evolves throughout the evening, moving between French-language classics, international influences, and lounge-inspired melodies to create an atmosphere that reflects the spirit of the destination.

“Today, luxury lies in the attention paid to details and in the quality of the moments we share. Champlain is no longer simply the restaurant with a view of the St. Lawrence River; it has become the restaurant that tells its story. It is an experience that sparks curiosity, inspires discovery, and leaves a lasting impression long after guests have left the table,” says François Bouffard, Director of Food & Beverage at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

BOLLINGER CHAMPAGNE EVENING

Champlain’s 100th anniversary celebrations will unfold over the coming months through a series of exclusive events highlighting the heritage, craftsmanship, and art of hospitality that have defined the restaurant for a century. Among the featured events, the Bollinger Champagne Dinner on October 29, 2026, will bring together Champlain’s culinary excellence and the refinement of one of Champagne’s most prestigious houses. Guests will be invited to discover a specially curated five-chapter tasting menu, created exclusively for the occasion and paired with Bollinger’s iconic champagnes served in magnum format. Tickets are available online here

Kat Florence Hotel Enters Its Next Chapter, Introducing The Kat Florence Reserve, Imperial Jade Manor and Every-Night Star Chef Dinners Included

The acclaimed Elora haven evolves with 100-acre private nature conservation, a historic Canadian manor for private escapes, a museum-worthy collection of 7 figure gemstones in the hotel walls, and an elevated culinary programme of rotating star Chef dinners including newly arrived Royal Chefs.

Elora/CNW/—Kat Florence Hotel, the intimate luxury retreat built by seven-time world record-breaking rare gemstone artist Kat Florence, unveils its most significant evolution since opening. On September 1, the hotel will introduce The Kat Florence Reserve, a private 100-acre wilderness sanctuary; the Imperial Jade Manor, an exclusive, 1870's Canadian heritage residence featuring jaw-dropping restorations like a 6-figure custom stone hot bath beneath the stars and Canada's first Top Chef Winner as guests' Private On-Site Chef; an evolving collection of some of the world's most extraordinary, multi-million-dollar Kat Florence gemstones imbedded in the hotel's very walls; and a series of stay-inclusive, nightly culinary experiences led by internationally acclaimed celebrity and Royal Chefs.

Together, the additions represent a natural evolution for the celebrated boutique hotel, further establishing it as one of Canada's most high end, private, ultra-rarity-seekers' travel destinations where fine artistry, royal hospitality, and nature's beauty exist in remarkable harmony.

"Everything I make, I make because it exists only once," says Kat Florence. "That's true of the stones I set, and it's true of this hotel. I do not build for more guests. I build so the guests I do have receive something that can't be repeated anywhere else. Every layer I've added is something I'd want for someone I love staying under my own roof."

At the heart of the experience is the Kat Florence Reserve, an exclusive 100-acre private nature sanctuary that extends the guest experience beyond the hotel's historic limestone.

Accessible only to selected hotel guests and by invite-only, the Reserve estate includes Kat's personal residence, and encompasses protected forest and wildlife, 2500 linier feet of secluded riverbanks and 100 acres of a private natural reserve of the famous Elora Gorge. Invited guests will experience the grounds with Kat's Private Reserve Guide, exclusively one couple or suite at a time (to protect the land), to enjoy restorative forest walks, local wildlife spotting, and luxury picnics at the Gorge river. The conservation is not and will never be intended for the masses; Kat Florence passionately purchased this land in her hometown to ensure it never gets corporation-developed on, and that this sanctuary of her childhood remains lovingly cared for but vastly untouched for the plant and wildlife within.

Imperial Jade Manor

Complementing the introduction of the Reserve is Imperial Jade Manor, a meticulously Kat-restored heritage residence (formerly Rosemount Cottage, est. 1870's, and later Saint Margaret's All Girls School) the artist personally lived in and hosted numerous VIP gem clients and celebrities in over the years. The acre estate was raised in the Italianate Revival style from limestone quarried close to home - the same stone that has given Elora its character since the mid-nineteenth century.

In addition to expected grandiose elements like in-residence spa facilities, 6-figure custom stone hot bath beneath the stars, 60 foot swimming pool and much more, the Imperial Jade Manor houses its own, celebrity Private Chef to cater to those staying in residence: Chef Dale Mackay, Canada's first Top Chef winner, the formerly youngest ever recipient of the Relais & Chateaux Grand Chef designation, former Head Chef for Gordon Ramsey in New York and Japan, former Executive Chef of Daniel Boulud's Dinex Group and many more.

Nightly, Star Chef Dinners Included For All Hotel Guests (And The New, Royal Chef)

Every stay at The Kat Florence Hotel is accompanied by a multi-course tasting dinner each and every night, prepared and led by a team of her rotating Master Chefs. Renowned names of her Chef fleet including Anthony Bish (as seen on Master Chef, Iron Chef, cooking for royal families and more) and Chef Marc Collyer (formerly of twice Michelin starred The Manor House UK), and newly arrived to the fleet is Private Chef to the stars and royals around the globe as well as international television personality Neill Anthony. Chef Neill comes from decades of Michelin fine dining abroad (with Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing and Alyn Williams), and has cooked for an endless list of the world's most private and wealthy include Britain's King Charles, Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, Elton John, Madonna, U2, Paul McCartney, been on tour with Middle Eastern Royal families as their private on-call Chef, and much more. For those fortunate to get an invite, royalty-regular Chef Neill will be cooking at Don & Kat's Private Dining escape on the river, a tranquil riverside space, with private terrace overlooking the Grand River.

The new Library on the River offers an additional peaceful setting for hotel guests to read, work, relax and take in the surrounding landscape. Complimentary Sundowners happen once or multiple times during your stay inspired by luxury safari lodges of Southern Africa, where guests gather and mingle for outdoor drinks before supper.

When you stay at the house of Kat Florence, you never know which of her Master Chefs will be entertaining you that evening, or what inspired ingredients and flavours you'll be experiencing. You just know you'll be sitting down to the rarest of elite Chef dining experiences on Earth, every night you're staying in her haven – her gift to all her guests.

A Living Gemstone Gallery

Art has always been at the heart of Kat Florence's vision, and beginning this season, guests will discover an evolving collection of museum-worthy, 7 figure value gemstones displayed throughout the hotel's original 1848 limestone walls, transforming the historic building's Living Room into a living gallery unlike any other in North America.

Carefully curated from the Kat Florence Atelier, the rotating collection includes the largest, flawless 424.8 carat Royal Velvet Blue Tanzanite ever offered at auction, the largest matching pair of Flawless Unheated Paraiba earrings to ever go to auction and the world's largest flawless 52.48 carat Jeremejevite set in D flawless diamonds. Rather than sitting behind traditional museum displays, these extraordinary works instead provide inviting moments of unexpected discovery as guests move through the property.

Since opening, Kat Florence Hotel has earned international recognition for its intimate, highly personalized approach to ultra-rare travel experiences and royal hospitality. This expansion builds on that vision while further establishing both the hotel and Elora as one of Canada's most compelling, exclusive tourism destinations.

Stratus Vineyards Becomes Ontario's First B Corp Certified Winery
Another milestone in global wine industry sustainability

Niagara-on-the-Lake/CNW/—Stratus Vineyards has become Ontario's first Certified B Corporation winery and one of just three in Canada to achieve the globally recognized standard.  The designation places Stratus among only a small percentage of wineries worldwide to have earned B Corp certification; a rigorous standard that redefines organizational success by measuring social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency over profitability alone.

Verified by B Lab, the non-profit organization behind the global B Corp movement, Stratus achieved a B Impact Assessment score of 85.1, surpassing the benchmark required for certification.

For Stratus, the achievement represents another major milestone in a sustainability journey that began more than 20 years ago;  shaping both the winery and the broader Canadian wine industry. Unlike certifications that focus on a single aspect of a business, B Corp credentials evaluate an organization's overall impact; including governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

"B Corp certification recognizes the culmination of our work since day one and holds us to a fulsome standard of ethical and purpose-driven business practice.  This accomplishment belongs to our entire team, whose commitment and passion allows us to pursue excellence in the glass while being equally ambitious about our impact on our land, our people and our community," said Suzanne Janke, General Manager of Stratus Vineyards.

Since inception in 2005, Stratus has been a pioneer in sustainable winegrowing, opening its doors as the world's first fully LEED certified winery.  Four years later, it became one of the founding members of  Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario and continues to champion practices that reduce environmental impact while enhancing quality in every bottle.

"And now, under B Corp, we view our work with an even broader lens.  It challenges us to consider not only how we make wine, but how every aspect of the business can create a positive outcome.  Accountability and authenticity are engrained pillars of our foundation and evolution of our winery story," added Janke.

Initiatives contributing to Stratus earning B Corp Certification include the use of lightweight and re-use glass bottles to reduce emissions, maintaining a long-term and local supply chain, formalized partnerships with arts, culture and environmental not-for-profits and a diverse, established employee workforce.

Tourisme Montréal mid-season report: Montréal on track for a record season
Montréal /CNW/—Montréal is off to an exceptional start to the tourism season, with all major indicators showing growth. From May through July, hotel occupancy reached 82%, up seven percentage points from the same period in 2025. Strong Canadian and U.S. markets, combined with a packed cultural, sports and business events calendar, continue to position Montréal among the world's leading urban destinations.

"This summer, Montréal is reaching new heights, and that speaks to the strength and diversity of our destination," said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal. "What is especially encouraging is that this growth comes from several sources and extends across the full season. With August and September still looking very strong, Montréal is clearly on track for a record year."

Records keep coming
Montréal's tourism season stands out for the sharp rise in hotel demand, which climbed 12% from May through July compared with the same period last year. Growth accelerated in July, with demand up 14% and average occupancy reaching 86%, making it an especially strong month. From May through July, travel from the United States increased by 7%, while Canadian travel grew by 5%. International markets also continued to expand, up nearly 5%. Travel planning indicators point in the same direction: recent Google searches related to Montréal accommodations rose by 16% in the U.S. Northeast and 8% in Ontario.

An exceptional summer for business events
Business events also played a major role in this performance. In June and July, Montréal welcomed 70 groups representing more than 50,000 delegates, including several major international conventions. July was particularly strong, with an estimated 35,000 delegates, compared with 19,300 in July 2025. Events hosted in Montréal included the International Society for Stem Cell Research, the Geochemical Society, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the IEEE Power and Energy Society. In total, 144 conventions are scheduled between May and September. With a 92% attendance rate since the start of the year and a solid pipeline for the years ahead, Montréal is reinforcing its position as a leading business events destination.

Montréal delivers a full urban experience
Culture, gastronomy, sports, festivals and major events are coming together to give Montréal the kind of urban experience that attracts different visitor profiles throughout the season. Ahead of its 20th edition, Osheaga held the second most popular event in its history, while the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal recorded its highest attendance ever across its free and indoor programming. The closing night of Juste pour rire also reached a new attendance peak. The season continues with several major events, including LASSO, Festival M.A.D., the Beach Pro Tour, the Vans Warped Tour and the UCI Road World Championships.

A strong finish ahead
The outlook remains highly favourable for the rest of the season. Forecasts point to a 4% increase in hotel demand, with occupancy expected to exceed 85%. September is shaping up to be especially robust, thanks in part to the UCI Road World Championships. Current projections suggest occupancy could reach about 90% during the competition. The French market is also expected to keep contributing to this momentum in the coming months, with air capacity between Paris and Montréal up 17% across all airlines.

New IRF Research Shows How CVBs and DMOs Add Value to Incentive Travel Programs

The Incentive Research Foundation announces the release of Maximizing CVB / DMO Value for Incentive Travel Programs, a new study examining how Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) and Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) support incentive travel programs. The research explores when and how incentive travel professionals engage these organizations, the value they provide, the barriers that can limit collaboration, and opportunities to build stronger partnerships.

“CVBs and DMOs can be powerful partners in creating the distinctive, highly customized experiences that make incentive travel memorable,” said Stephanie Harris, IRF President. “The research shows that engaging these organizations early can give planners greater access to local expertise, unique experiences, financial support, and faster, more confident destination decisions.”

Maximizing CVB / DMO Value for Incentive Travel Programs combines a quantitative survey of incentive travel program owners and third-party planners with in-depth interviews with CVB and DMO representatives in North America and Europe.

Key insights from Maximizing CVB / DMO Value for Incentive Travel Programs include:

  • CVB/DMO support can influence destination selection: 68% of incentive travel professionals indicated they have made a destination decision based on the support or quality of a CVB/DMO.
  • Distinctive local access is a key differentiator: Incentive travel professionals place the greatest value on unique experiences, followed by destination selection assistance and financial support.
  • Early engagement benefits both sides: When a destination is first under consideration, CVBs/DMOs can locate options and availability, and 53% of planners engage them during early discovery and feasibility.
  • Financial support is widely used: 74% of incentive travel planners reported that their programs benefited from CVB/DMO financial incentives, such as room-night rebates, off-peak room discounts, and complimentary airfare for planners conducting site visits.
  • Misconceptions can prevent engagement: Some planners assume CVBs/DMOs only focus on large programs, duplicate the role of DMCs, charge for their services, or offer limited value when the planner already knows the destination.
  • Barriers remain: One-third of incentive travel planners reported at least one friction point when collaborating with CVBs/DMOs, including responsiveness, coordination, and uncertainty about the organizations’ roles.

JMIC Publishes Third Edition of the Global Manifesto, Reinforcing the Case for Business Events as Strategic Economic Assets

Brussels—The Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) today announced the publication of the third edition of the JMIC Global Manifesto, an updated and expanded version of the industry's flagship advocacy resource for positioning business events as drivers of economic, social and professional transformation.

First published in 2020 to support the sector's post-pandemic recovery, and revised in 2023 to build the industry rationale for business events as agents of growth, this third edition draws on the latest data from the Events Industry Council's 2026 Global Economic Significance Study alongside a wide range of association and sector sources. It sets out 15 ways in which business events create strategic advantage for governments and destinations, from building trust and community legacies to supporting talent development, sustainability and measurable ROI.

A key addition to this edition is the integration of case studies and legacy narratives from The Iceberg, JMIC's impact storytelling platform. Where economic data demonstrates the scale of the industry's contribution, The Iceberg's case studies illustrate the lasting, often less visible legacies that business events leave behind in host communities. Together, the two resources give industry professionals and policymakers both the figures and the stories needed to make the case for business events as strategic policy tools.

The Manifesto also sets out ten practical steps for delivering the industry's message locally, reflecting JMIC's position that a single global narrative must be adapted and owned by national, regional and local stakeholders to be effective with their own governments and public authorities.

Working Group

The third edition was developed by a JMIC working group whose members contributed their time, expertise and sector networks to the project. JMIC thanks:

  • Martin Boyle, CEO, IAPCO (Working Group Lead)
  • Gemmeke De Jongh, Senior Manager Education and Impact, ICCA
  • Alex Alles, Senior Director Advocacy & Sustainability, ICCA
  • Peirui Tan, Programme Manager Advocacy and Alliances, UFI
  • Gregor Bischkopf, Executive Director, IFES
  • Bettina Reventlow-Mourier, Deputy Convention Director - Head of Congress, Copenhagen Convention Bureau

James Rees, President of JMIC, said:

"JMIC’s role in supporting the global business events industry is to provide a platform where the world's business events associations and industry stakeholders speak with one voice. The Global Manifesto is a detailed manifestation of such a platform which, having supported the industry in its recovery from the pandemic, has rightly been designed and adapted for the world in which we now operate and will be an invaluable tool for colleagues and stakeholders across all regions to support their advocacy work and demonstrate the powerful, lasting impact and legacy of business events.”

Martin Boyle, CEO of IAPCO and lead of the working group, said:

"This Manifesto takes a truly global perspective, while recognising that successful advocacy is ultimately delivered through relevant local messages. Drawing on research data from the Events Industry Council (EIC), the member associations of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) and others across the meetings and events sector, it has been designed as a practical and accessible guide, equipping meetings industry professionals with clear, adaptable messaging to support advocacy initiatives and stakeholder discussions, whether speaking as a member of one of our global meetings and events industry associations or advocating as an independent company. As CEO of IAPCO, we will be using the Manifesto ourselves, but will also be leveraging its content by sharing it with all of our members as we support them through their own grass-roots advocacy work."

The full JMIC Global Manifesto, 3rd Edition, is available at https://www.themeetingsindustry.org/global-manifesto/

Further case studies and legacy narratives are available at www.the-iceberg.org

About JMIC
The Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) is the global umbrella body for the major associations representing the business events industry. JMIC advocates for the recognition of conferences, trade shows and conventions as strategic economic assets, and leads the industry's Net Zero Carbon Events initiative targeting net zero emissions by 2050.

Destination Vancouver Looks to the Lasting Impact of FIFA World Cup 2026™

After the final whistle, one tournament ended. Vancouver's next chapter now begins.

Vancouver, BC/CNW/—When the final whistle blew on Tuesday afternoon in Vancouver, and Switzerland emerged victorious, FIFA World Cup 2026™ concluded its seven matches in the city. But for Destination Vancouver, the work of converting the world's biggest sporting event into years of future visitation, investment, and economic development is only beginning.

"Cities are remembered through defining moments," said Royce Chwin, President & CEO of Destination Vancouver. "Expo 86 introduced Vancouver to the world. The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™, cemented our place on the global stage. FIFA World Cup 2026 has introduced Vancouver to an entirely new generation of future visitors around the world. Our job now is to turn that inspiration into opportunity."

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games demonstrated how global events can elevate a city's international profile long after the closing ceremony. In the five years that followed, Vancouver experienced sustained growth in overnight visitation.

FIFA World Cup 2026 presents a similar opportunity to build on Vancouver's reputation at a time when destinations around the world are competing harder than ever for visitors, investment, talent and major events.

"Every year, Vancouver welcomes visitors from around the world. But being a Host City gave us something different. It gave us the opportunity to introduce Vancouver to millions of future visitors who may never have considered our city before," continued Chwin. "And Vancouver delivered a spectacular performance."

Meetings & Conventions

On July 10th, the Vancouver Convention Centre welcomes its first post-tournament citywide conference (a citywide is defined as more than 1000 out-of-town delegates). That marks the return of the meetings, conventions and events sector that forms the backbone of Vancouver's year round visitor economy, supporting hotels, restaurants, attractions, and local businesses across the region.

That momentum is reflected in an exceptionally strong business events pipeline. Destination Vancouver and the Vancouver Convention Centre are currently at 61% of their annual citywide bid win goal, while citywide lead volume is tracking at 125% of pace year-to-date.

Looking further ahead, 2027 is on track to become the busiest year on record for citywide conferences, surpassing the previous high set in 2018 by close to 20%. Momentum is continuing into 2028, with the team already at 85% of its annual target.

"One of the greatest measures of success is what happens after the spotlight moves on," said Chwin. "A few days after the final match, Vancouver returns to doing what it does best: welcoming delegates, attracting major international meetings and filling our convention calendar. That's exactly what a resilient visitor economy looks like. Major sporting events and business events aren't separate stories. Together they strengthen Vancouver's reputation, support local businesses and create year round economic opportunity."

On top of a strong conference schedule, Vancouver is seeing a record cruise season with 358 ship calls scheduled this year and more than 1.4 million passengers forecast. That's up from 300 ship calls last year and 1.2 million passengers.

The Beautiful Dome

One of the tournament's defining images became The Beautiful Dome, the transformation of Science World's iconic geodesic dome into the FIFA World Cup 2026 Official Match Ball.

Conceived as a globally recognizable visual symbol of Vancouver's Host City presence, the installation generated international broadcast exposure while connecting one of the city's most recognizable landmarks, originally built for Expo 86, with another historic moment in Vancouver's story.

The project exemplified how tourism, government, cultural institutions and industry can work together to create destination assets whose impact extends well beyond a single event.

"Tourism is one of the few industries where reputation creates demand," said Chwin. "Every broadcast image, every social media post and every visitor experience during FIFA World Cup 2026 contributes to Vancouver's reputation as a destination people aspire to visit."

Strengthening Long-term Demand

Analysis has shown that destinations that successfully host globally significant events strengthen not only tourism demand, but also international reputation, investment attractiveness, and long-term competitiveness. FIFA World Cup 2026 demonstrated Vancouver's ability to deliver one of the world's largest sporting events while showcasing the creativity, collaboration and hospitality that define the destination.

This degree of international attention will be pivotal to building the value of Vancouver's visitor economy from $9 billion to $11 billion over the next few years

"People often ask whether hosting an event like the FIFA World Cup is worth it," said Chwin. "There's a better question to ask. The real question is what happens because of it. If a family books their first trip to Vancouver next summer, if an international association chooses Vancouver for its convention, or if another global event decides this is the city it wants to call home, that's the legacy we're building."

Hotel Occupancy

Visitor patterns during major events can differ from typical travel periods, and it will take time to fully assess the economic and tourism impacts across the destination. Hotel occupancy has been a continuing story throughout the tournament and Vancouver has been one of the better-performing host cities.

As of June 27, hotel occupancy for downtown Vancouver hotels was 75% (compared to 91% for June of last year).

While June hotel performance reflected the unique dynamics of a mega event, forward looking indicators point to strength through the remainder of the summer.

Occupancy for July and August is forecast to exceed 90%
Short-term rental demand is currently pacing up double digits over last year from July through to September.
Although occupancy softened during June, ADR remained significantly higher than last year during tournament weeks, reaching more than $500 during the latter half of June, roughly 30% above 2025 levels which reinforces that demand remained valuable even if room nights shifted.

Ground Is Broken On New Port Zante Cruise Terminal in St. Kitts

St. Kitts to commence turnaround operations for two P&O Cruises vessels beginning in November 2027

Basseterre, ST. KITTS—St. Kitts marked a historic milestone in its tourism development with the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new cruise terminal at Port Zante. The ceremony brought together government officials, tourism stakeholders, industry partners, and members of the media to celebrate the commencement of a transformative project that will position St. Kitts and Nevis as a premier cruise turnaround port in the Caribbean with the ultimate goal of offering full homeport services.

For many years, St. Kitts has benefited from the economic impact of cruise tourism. Millions of visitors have stepped ashore at Port Zante, supporting local businesses, creating employment opportunities, and contributing significantly to national development. The new terminal represents the next phase in the destination's evolution, creating new opportunities for increased visitor spending, overnight stays, enhanced airlift, and broader economic benefits.

The facility is a key component of the Government's strategy to build resilience within the cruise tourism sector. Beginning in November 2027, St. Kitts will commence turnaround operations for two P&O Cruises vessels, marking a significant expansion of the country's cruise offering. Upon completion, the terminal will feature state-of-the-art security screening and immigration systems designed to facilitate the seamless processing of guests embarking and disembarking in St. Kitts. The development also supports the continued growth of the sector, with the destination already welcoming more than 950,000 cruise passengers this season.

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, said the development reflects the Government's unwavering commitment to advancing its Sustainable Island State Agenda.

"This investment in the cruise terminal will drive economic impact felt across every corner of our tourism industry; regardless of your job," Dr. Drew said. "It also advances our vision for a Sustainable Island State: a nation resilient enough, and diversified enough, to not just survive whatever comes our way, but to thrive."

Once operational, the terminal will enhance the visitor experience, improve operational efficiencies, and further establish St. Kitts and Nevis as a leading cruise turnaround port in the Caribbean.

Montréal remains the top city in the Americas for international meetings

The metropolis holds first place in the Union of International Associations ranking for the ninth consecutive year

Montréal/CNW/—Another year at the top: according to the latest ranking from the Union of International Associations (UIA), Montréal once again hosted more international meetings than any other destination in the Americas in 2025. This marks the ninth year in a row the city has led the continent.

With 89 international meetings meeting the UIA's criteria, Montréal ranked well ahead of other major North American hubs such as Washington (68) and New York (54). This strong performance also keeps Montréal among the world's most sought-after destinations for international meetings and conventions. Earlier this year, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) also named Montréal the top North American city for international association meetings for the tenth consecutive year.

Leadership built on a strong ecosystem

Over the years, Montréal has developed recognized expertise in hosting major international events. The city boasts a dynamic scientific community and a deep pool of experts in key fields such as life sciences, technology, artificial intelligence, aerospace, and engineering. Its engaged tourism industry also plays a vital role, helping Montréal stand out in a highly competitive global market.

This success results from close collaboration among Tourisme Montréal, the Palais des congrès de Montréal, the city's business, academic, and association communities, and a broad network of local leaders who work together to attract international events to the metropolis.

Quotes

"Nine consecutive years at the top of the Americas show Montréal's lasting ability to stand out among the world's leading destinations. This consistency reflects the quality of what we offer, the strength of our partnerships, and the commitment of an entire ecosystem working every day to elevate the city's international profile."

-- Mylène Gagnon, Vice President, Sales and Convention Services, Tourisme Montréal

"This ranking reflects the full commitment and work of our ecosystem partners' teams in helping make Montréal one of the world's leading business destinations. This collective effort, and the synergy that drives it, give our city a powerful edge in attracting events whose positive impact on Montréal and Québec continues well beyond the events themselves."

-- Emmanuelle Legault, President and CEO, Palais des congrès de Montréal

SITE PULSE reveals local expertise and reputation remain the defining factors in DMC selection

New SITE research shows destination knowledge and trusted relationships score more than four and a half times higher, in terms of importance, than lower-tier factors including technology, scale and financial stability

SITE, the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence, has released new findings from its latest SITE PULSE survey, revealing that local expertise, authentic insight and trusted reputation remain the dominant factors when incentive travel professionals select a destination management company.

The SITE PULSE survey, completed by 286 industry professionals in May 2026, asked respondents to rank the top five factors they consider when choosing a DMC. The findings show a clear hierarchy, with Local Expertise and Authentic Insight ranked highest overall, closely followed by Reputation and Relationships. Together, the two leading selection factors scored 4.6 times higher, on average, than the six lower-ranked criteria, underlining the continued importance of destination knowledge, trust and human relationships in DMC selection.

The research reinforces the essential role DMCs play as strategic local partners, not simply logistics providers. Responsiveness and Agility, together with Service Breadth, Creativity and Customisation, formed a second tier of importance, while factors including Technology and Systems Capability, Scale and Organisational Reach, Financial Stability, Legacy and Market Presence ranked significantly lower overall.

The findings suggest that, even as incentive travel programmes become more complex, buyers continue to place greatest value on the human and destination-specific qualities that DMCs bring to programme design and delivery. In a climate shaped by rising costs, geopolitical uncertainty, shifting qualifier expectations and growing demand for authentic destination experiences, the findings underline the importance of local knowledge, trusted relationships and operational agility.

Annette Gregg, CEO, SITE, said: “This SITE PULSE survey confirms something many incentive travel professionals instinctively understand: the value of a great DMC lies in their ability to open up a destination with insight, creativity and confidence. Technology, systems and scale all have a role to play, but they do not replace the depth of local knowledge, judgement and relationships that make incentive travel programmes genuinely memorable and effective.”

Hasan Dinc, CITP, President, SITE and Managing Director, ODS Turkey, said: “As someone who has spent much of my career working as a DMC, these findings feel very personal. A DMC’s value is not simply in knowing which venue to use or which supplier to call. It is in understanding the rhythm of a destination, the culture behind it, the people who make it work and the small details that can transform a programme from well organised to unforgettable. That kind of knowledge is built over years, through relationships, trust and lived experience.”

Across all respondents, Local Expertise and Authentic Insight scored 3.47 average weighted points (out of 5) per respondent, narrowly ahead of Reputation and Relationships at 3.32. By comparison, the six lower-ranked criteria averaged just 0.75 points per respondent, meaning the two leading factors scored 4.6 times higher, on average, than this lower tier.

  1. Local Expertise and Authentic Insight - 3.47

  1. Reputation and Relationships – 3.32.

  1. Responsiveness and Agility – 1.95

  1. Service Breadth, Creativity and Customisation – 1.82

  1. Financial Stability – 0.62

  1. Legacy & Longevity – 0.66

  1. Market Presence – 0.86

  1. Attitude and Cultural Fit – 1.46

  1. Technology and Systems Capability – 0.47

  1. Scale and organisational Reach – 0.40.

First-choice selections reinforced the same picture. Reputation and Relationships was the most common number-one priority overall, selected by 42.3% of respondents, while Local Expertise and Authentic Insight followed closely at 33.6%. No other factor was chosen first by more than 7.7% of respondents.

Gregg continued: “The findings are important because they show both consistency and nuance. There is a strong shared view across the industry that DMC selection starts with local insight and trust. However, different audiences look at DMCs through slightly different lenses. Corporates are thinking about programme design, agencies are thinking about delivery confidence, DMOs are thinking about destination representation, and suppliers are often seeing DMCs through the lens of reputation and partnership.”

The results suggest that technology and scale, while useful, are not primary decision-making factors for most respondents. Rather, these factors are most powerful when they support, rather than replace, the core DMC value proposition of local expertise, responsiveness, creativity and trusted relationships.

Dinc concludes: “For DMCs, the message is clear and encouraging. We should invest in our systems, our teams and our professional standards, but we must never lose sight of what clients value most: our ability to bring a destination to life in a way that is authentic, creative, responsive and commercially sound. That is where the partnership between DMCs, agencies, corporates and destinations becomes so powerful.”

An Extraordinary Award Season for The Parkside Hotel & Spa

Victoria, BC—The Parkside Hotel & Spa is closing out one of the most recognized years in its history. From national hospitality publications to the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, the accolades that have arrived in 2026 reflect what the team at The Parkside has quietly built over nearly two decades: A hotel where sustainability is not a strategy, but a way of being.

On June 11, at the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards, The Parkside Hotel & Spa received two of the evening’s top honours: Business of the Year (40+ Employees) and Business Person of the Year, awarded to General Manager Trina White. The recognition from the Chamber, the region’s most established business community, marks a meaningful milestone, celebrating not only the hotel’s operational and environmental achievements, but its role as a committed, community-rooted business in Victoria.

These two awards join a remarkable collection of recognition earned earlier this year. In May, The Parkside received the Green Leadership Award in the Hotel Category from Kostuch Media Ltd., publisher of Hotelier magazine and Foodservice & Hospitality, presented at the Top 30-Under-30 Summit in Toronto. The award recognizes exceptional leadership in sustainable hotel operations across Canada and places The Parkside among the country’s most forward-thinking hospitality businesses.

In April, the hotel earned a double honour at the 2026 BC Hotel Association Awards Gala, taking home both the Sustainability Champion and Accommodation of the Year awards, a pairing that speaks directly to The Parkside’s founding belief that responsible operations and exceptional guest experiences go hand in hand. And earlier this year, in February, General Manager Trina White was presented with The IMPACT Award at the 2026 IMPACT Sustainability Travel & Tourism Summit, recognizing her outstanding leadership in sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship over a career spanning more than 25 years.

“I am deeply grateful for every one of these recognitions, and I want to be clear: they belong to our entire team. The people who show up every day at The Parkside – who carry our values into every guest interaction, every decision, every detail – they are the reason we are here. To be recognized in the same year by our own community, by our industry, and by national peers is something none of us take lightly. It fills me with so much pride for what this team has built, and so much gratitude for the guests, partners, and community who have supported us every step of the way. And we’re only halfway through the year,” said Trina White, General Manager, The Parkside Hotel & Spa.

The Parkside team extends its gratitude to the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, the BC Hotel Association, Kostuch Media Ltd., and the IMPACT Sustainability Travel & Tourism Summit for their continued celebration of leadership, community, and responsible business in British Columbia’s tourism sector.

2026 Incentive Travel Index launches with new focus on risk, AI and the qualifier voice

IRF and SITE, with research partner Oxford Economics, deepen the industry’s most comprehensive global survey with new lines of inquiry on geopolitical risk, AI, destination management companies and practitioner sentiment.

The Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) and SITE , in partnership with Oxford Economics, have announced the launch of the 2026 Incentive Travel Index (ITI), the most comprehensive and longest-running annual study of the global incentive travel industry.

Now in its seventh edition, ITI is a joint initiative of IRF, SITE and Oxford Economics. Its global sample includes corporate end users, agencies, destination management companies (DMCs), suppliers and destination marketing organisations (DMOs) across more than 90 countries. The 2026 edition builds on the Index’s longitudinal view of the sector, helping the industry distinguish enduring shifts from short-term market conditions, while introducing new lines of inquiry that reflect the issues practitioners are navigating now.

The 2026 survey retains the four established pillars that have anchored the Index since its inception: budgets, benefits, programme design and destination selection. These provide the year-on-year comparability that makes ITI a strategic planning tool for organisations across the incentive travel supply chain.

For 2026, the survey adds dedicated new questions on destination risk and geopolitics, the role of the qualifier voice in destination evaluation, how teams are using artificial intelligence in practice, and the future of the DMC sector. It also introduces more refined budget granularity and a closing Lightning Round of sixteen short, candid prompts designed to capture the unvarnished view from the practitioner’s desk.

Stephanie Harris, IRF President, said: "ITI is the only research instrument that examines the global incentive travel market from every angle, taking in source markets and destinations, end users and intermediaries, suppliers and DMOs. Its value lies in that completeness and in its continuity. Seven editions now give us a longitudinal view that allows us to separate enduring industry shifts from passing weather. For 2026 we have built carefully on that historical foundation, while making space for the questions our industry is genuinely wrestling with right now."

Annette Gregg, CMM, MBA, CEO of SITE, added: “Working with Oxford Economics, we have sharpened the 2026 survey considerably. Budgets, benefits, programme design and destination selection remain core, but we have opened up new lines of inquiry that reflect where the industry’s attention is actually focused. Practitioners are being asked not just how they feel about disruption, but what concrete actions they have already taken in response to risk and geopolitical uncertainty. We are also asking whether the destinations we choose are aligned with what qualifiers themselves would choose if given a free hand, and how teams are using AI in practice across destination research, sourcing, content, personalisation and programme design. These are no longer theoretical questions. They are practical ones.”

Hasan Dinc, President of SITE, said: “Speaking with SITE members across more than twenty-nine chapters and affiliates, the conversations have changed materially over the last eighteen months. Members are navigating destination risk in real time, weighing geopolitical signals against the commercial reality of programmes that have been months or years in the planning. The 2026 ITI gives them a structured way to share that experience, compare notes with peers across markets and bring a global evidence base back into the rooms where destination decisions are made. I encourage every SITE member to contribute, and I encourage chapter presidents to make this a priority conversation at their next chapter meeting.”

The 2026 ITI survey has opened is available in English, Spanish and Chinese until 31 July. The survey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete and is fully anonymous.

Further details are available on the ITI website and on the home pages of IRF and SITE.

One Caribbean Canada Celebrates First-Ever Media Awards!

Toronto—One Caribbean Canada (OCC), the collaborative platform representing 26 Caribbean tourism offices across Canada, marked a historic milestone this week with the successful staging of two landmark events in Toronto — the inaugural One Caribbean Canada Media Awards Luncheon and the One Caribbean Canada Travel Trade Expo.

A First-Ever Celebration of Caribbean Storytelling

Held at the Old Mill Toronto, the One Caribbean Canada Media Awards Luncheon brought together some of Canada's most respected travel journalists, editors, photographers, and content creators for a morning meet and greet with Caribbean tourism officials, followed by a luncheon and the presentation of the region's first-ever Canadian media awards dedicated exclusively to Caribbean travel writing.

"The Caribbean needs your voice, your firsthand experiences, and your authentic storytelling now more than ever," said the founder of One Caribbean Canada in her address to the room. "The story today is not simply one of sun and sand — it is a story of partnership, innovation, culture, sustainability, and global relevance."

Five award categories were established for the inaugural program. Due to minimum submission requirements, awards were presented in three categories, with the organization committed to expanding the program in 2026.

2025 One Caribbean Canada Media Award Winners:

Trade Publication — Best Feature in a Trade Publication: Melaya Horsten for Where in the World: St. Kitts & Nevis, published in Ignite Magazine. The award was presented by Mark Johnston of Fathom Communications on behalf of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

Online Digital Category — Best Feature in an Online Publication: Adam Waxman for The Mystique of Martinique, featured in DINE & Destinations Magazine. Judges praised the piece for its exceptional craft and sensory immersion, noting that it avoided the recycled language of typical travel writing in favour of vivid, distinctive imagery. A runner-up recognition was made to Kailash Maharaj for Making Waves (Turks & Caicos), which appeared in the Spring edition of City Style & Living.

Consumer Newspaper/Magazine — Best Feature Article in a Canadian Consumer Newspaper/Magazine (Print): Vawn Himmelsbachfor Whispers of the Caribbean: Island Life Unfolds on the Quieter Shores of St. Vincent and The Grenadines, published in BOLD Traveller Magazine. An honourable mention was awarded to the article À La Rencontre des Artistes (Guadeloupe), which appeared in Le Devoir. The award was presented by Shelley John and Anja Brokjans of Vox International on behalf of St. Vincent and The Grenadines.

Winners received a certificate of achievement, a digital icon recognizing them as the first-ever One Caribbean Canada Media Award recipients, and a piece of Circle Moss living wall art by Green Stems of British Columbia — a gift that reflects the organization's commitment to sustainability and the natural world.

The Judges

The 2025 awards were adjudicated by a distinguished panel of five Canadian travel media professionals: Bert Archer, editor of TravelPulse Québec and the panel's bilingual judge; Michele Peterson, travel journalist and publisher of A Taste for Travel, with extensive experience across 22 Caribbean countries; Simone Jennifer Smith, television host, mental health specialist, and Chief Reporter at the Toronto Caribbean Newspaper; Theresa Storm, two-time winner of the Caribbean Tourism Organization's Canadian Travel Writer of the Year award; and Doug Wallace, travel and lifestyle journalist, author, and editor-publisher of TravelRight.Today. All submissions were fully redacted prior to judging to ensure fairness and impartiality.

One Caribbean Canada Travel Trade Expo

That same evening, OCC hosted its inaugural Travel Trade Expo — an exclusive networking event uniting airlines, tour operators, meeting planners, and retail head office personnel with Caribbean tourism boards for one-on-one meetings and meaningful business conversations.

One Caribbean Canada Unveils Largest Caribbean Event Calendar Ever Produced

In a further demonstration of its commitment to inspiring Canadians to explore the full depth and breadth of the Caribbean, One Caribbean Canada also announced the launch of its 2026 Caribbean Event Calendar — the largest compilation of Caribbean events ever produced.

Now live on the One Caribbean Canada website, the 2026 edition spans an impressive 72 pages of events taking place across the Caribbean — double the size of the 2025 edition, which ran 36 pages. The calendar covers events by month and by country, and for the first time includes an Events by Category section, allowing travel advisors and consumers alike to search for the type of experience that interests them most — whether that is food and culinary festivals, music events, carnivals, art festivals, sailing regattas, sporting events, or cultural celebrations.

Notably, this edition also includes the full Caribbean Premier League T-20 cricket calendar of matches taking place in August and September — a nod to the growing interest in sports tourism across the region.

"We know that the Caribbean is so much more than sun, sand, and sea," said the founder of One Caribbean Canada. "This calendar is proof of that. Seventy-two pages of festivals, events, regattas, carnivals, and competitions — there is something for every kind of traveller, at every time of year."

The 2026 Caribbean Event Calendar is available on the One Caribbean Canada website, and individual category lists — such as Food Festivals, Carnivals, or Sailing Regattas — are also available for travel advisors to share directly with their clients as inspiring and practical planning tools.

Tourism sector set to deliver more than $100M in sales at Canada's largest international tourism trade show

Toronto hosts more than 500 buyers from 24 international markets over three days: May 26 to 29, 2026.

Toronto/CNW/—Rendez-vous Canada (RVC) is set to welcome a record number of international travel buyers and Canadian tourism sellers in Toronto from May 26 to 29, 2026, signaling unprecedented global interest in Canada's tourism experiences.

The tradeshow is a major driver of tourism revenue and international trade. Travel and tourism revenue is projected to increase by 6 per cent and reach $140.9 billion this year according to the Canadian Tourism Outlook Report, produced by Destination Canada and Tourism Economics.

As one of Canada's top service exports, tourism is projected to contribute nine to 10 per cent (up to $30 billion) toward Canada's goal of securing an additional $300 billion in non-US exports by 2035. Tourism's opportunity to contribute to Canada's trade diversification efforts starts on the tradeshow floor, where Canadian sellers (attractions, hotels, and Destination Marketing Organizations) will connect with international buyers (travel agents and tour operators). More than 60,000 of these business to business appointments will connect Canadian tourism experiences to global markets.

All of Canada's target markets attend Rendez-vous Canada, which is experiencing increased interest from markets including Brazil, France and China since Canada's Approved Destination Status (ADS) was reinstated in November 2025. Registration from American buyers is strong and overall buyer registration from all markets is at an all-time high.

Rendez-vous Canada 2026 by the numbers:

  • Over 1,400 attendees registered
  • 500+ buyers from 24 international markets (100+ more buyers than 2025)
  • 900+ sellers representing more than 500 Canadian tourism organizations, including Indigenous entrepreneurs
  • 60,000+ pre-scheduled business-to-business appointments

Hosting Rendez-vous Canada in Toronto will deliver strong economic and sector benefits.

  • The preliminary direct economic impact is approximately $6.7M
  • An additional $5.7M comes from estimated indirect and induced impacts — that is business-to-business activity resulting from the direct impact
  • More than 4,000 hotel room nights secured in Toronto
  • The 2025 event in Winnipeg generated an estimated $4.6M in economic impact and $89.6M in business was signed over three days in 2025.

Spotlight on Toronto and Ontario Tourism Businesses:

Rendez-vous Canada is an opportunity to showcase Toronto's diverse culinary scene, culturally rich neighbourhoods, and year-round lineup of attractions, festivals, and sporting events to over 500 buyers and tour operators from key global markets. This year's event also comes ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026™, giving buyers a firsthand look at how Toronto is preparing to welcome the world.

Last year, Toronto welcomed a record 28.2 million visitors, generating an all-time high of $9.1 billion in visitor spending. International arrivals were the city's fastest-growing segment, rising 8 per cent to 1.4 million visitors, led by strong growth from the U.K. and Germany. Hosting international buyers helps strengthen demand in established markets like Europe and Mexico while expanding opportunities in Asia. To support continued growth and diversification, Destination Toronto has increased visibility and accelerated in-market activity in the U.K., Germany and Mexico alongside the critical U.S. market.

More than 85 Ontario tourism businesses and organizations will participate in the marketplace, meeting with international buyers to build relationships and secure future visitation for destinations and experiences across the province.

SITE and Maritz study finds incentive travel remains the top non-cash motivator across all working generations

Collaboration between SITE and Maritz reveals a shifting qualifier profile, stronger business case and clear design imperatives for the future of incentive travel

SITE, the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence, and Maritz today released headline findings from Investigating the Power of Incentive Travel Across Generations, a major SITE and Maritz collaboration. The study is the most current and comprehensive research into how Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z respond to incentive travel, reward and recognition.

The study shows that incentive travel continues to work powerfully across every generation. However, it also reveals that the profile of the people earning travel, the assumptions behind programme design and the meaning of the reward are all shifting.

Travel remains the leading non-cash motivator

When respondents were asked to rate nine reward types for motivational power, individual travel scored highest in the average rating for all generations, with 61% of all respondents describing it as “extremely motivating”. Group travel was second most popular at 50% and both forms of travel outperformed cash, gift cards, points, private and public recognition.

Responding to the headline results, Annette Gregg, CEO of SITE commented: “This research confirms that travel is not under threat from cash. If anything, it is the other way around - cash is under threat from travel. Incentive travel remains the dominant non-cash motivator across every generation.”

The Business Case

The data also demonstrates the business case for incentive travel is both measurable and strong. Among respondents who attended a trip in the past three years, 89% said they were more likely to stay in their job after winning, 89% felt stronger loyalty to the sponsoring company and 93% were eager to win again. More than half, 54%, described the meaning of a group travel experience as “a feeling of achievement”, showing that the intrinsic value of winning can be as important as the trip itself.

Sarah Kiefer, Vice President, Brand at Maritz said: “This data matters because it moves the conversation beyond opinions and gut assumptions. Incentive travel isn’t just a nice reward. It’s a real driver of retention, loyalty and future performance. These findings give program owners a strong business case which reinforces something we see all the time — the emotional side matters. When more than half of people say a group travel experience feels like an achievement, it’s clear the impact goes beyond the trip to create deeper connections within the organization.”

A Modern Workforce

The findings also demonstrate that the workforce motivated by incentive travel today is wider, younger, less remote and more operationally focused than the traditional industry stereotype. Based on 1,000 US respondents, with 960 records forming the core analytical base, the research found that today’s incentive travel qualifier is broader than the industry assumes. 60% of qualifiers in the study work in operations or technology, while fewer than 10% work in sales. 80% earn less than USD 150,000 a year, 60% hold a college degree, roughly three-quarters have been with their company for less than 10 years and fewer than 10 per cent work remotely.

The study also challenges a recent, simplified, anecdotal narratives around Gen Z that say they are disengaged from incentive travel. In fact, 40% of Gen Z respondents had won four or more trips in the past three years, compared with 26% of Gen X and Boomer respondents. Group travel is however less universally appealing to Gen Z. 13% of Gen Z respondents said they dislike group travel or travelling with colleagues, compared with 6% of Gen Y and 7% of Gen X. Gen Z respondents were also less likely to agree that winning a trip made them feel valued or appreciated or more likely to stay in their job. The conclusion is clear: Gen Z is qualifying, Gen Z is travelling, but Gen Z needs programmes designed differently.

Design for Success

In response, the study identifies five design imperatives for incentive travel organisers:

  • Guest inclusion and flexibility is the strongest driver of how valued, special and loyal a winner feels.
  • Novelty also matters, with first-time destinations consistently outperforming repeat destinations.
  • Recognition must be deliberately designed into the trip, particularly for Gen Z.
  • Trips of five nights or more, beach, island or adventure themes, moderate group sizes of 11 to 50 and an all-inclusive plus activity format all perform strongly.

Programme eligibility should expand beyond traditional sales roles to reflect a workforce that is now operations-heavy, technology-heavy and multi-generational.

“The next generation of incentive travel will need to be more intentional, more flexible and more inclusive. Guest choice, first-time destinations, built-in recognition moments and experiences that reflect a broader workforce are not ‘nice to have’ design details. They are the factors that determine whether a trip feels personal, motivating and worth pursuing,” added Kiefer. “The message from the research is clear: incentive travel works, but the best-performing programs will be those designed around current and future qualifiers, not who the industry designed for in the past.”

Gregg adds: “This research gives our industry a more sophisticated and more compelling story to tell. Incentive travel continues to outperform other non-cash rewards across every generation, but the data also shows that programme design has to evolve. The workforce being motivated by travel today is broader, more operationally focused and more multi-generational than many traditional models assume. That creates a major opportunity for buyers, DMCs, agencies, destinations and incentive professionals to build programmes that are more inclusive, more intentional and more effective. Most importantly, it gives the industry the evidence it needs to defend incentive travel in the C-suite, not as a discretionary reward, but as a strategic tool for motivation, loyalty and performance.”

The research was undertaken by SITE and Maritz as equal research partners, supported by Hilton and the SITE Foundation.

Jonathan Richards, president of the SITE Foundation concludes: “SITE Foundation is committed to funding research that advances the incentive travel industry and gives professionals the evidence they need to demonstrate value. This study moves the conversation beyond anecdotes, showing how incentive travel motivates a changing workforce and how programmes can be designed to deliver stronger outcomes for participants, businesses and the wider industry.”

Notes to editors

Investigating the Power of Incentive Travel Across Generations is a SITE and Maritz co-market study, supported by Hilton and SITE Foundation.

The study surveyed 1,000 US respondents born between 1946 and 2005, all of whom had had the opportunity to earn travel through an incentive or recognition programme in the previous three years. The survey included 57 questions, 186 variables, 11 short-answer text boxes and three long-answer comment boxes. Fieldwork took place from 30 January to 6 March 2026. Following data cleaning, 960 respondent records form the core analytical base.

Rogers Centre Ottawa builds momentum through surge of first-time conferences and sector spin-offs

New wins across Indigenous, engineering, energy and science events point to growing sector strength and future repeat business

Rogers Centre Ottawa is building on a strong year as a growing number of first-time conferences choose the venue, creating fresh momentum in sectors where the centre already has a foothold and helping open the door to future repeat business.

This year’s conference mix includes a notable number of new-to-centre events, alongside established repeat business that continues to perform strongly. Among the upcoming conferences are the International District Energy Association Conference,  International District Energy, PlantBiology 2026, International Conference on Residency Education and just recently, the Canadian Nuclear Association’s CNA2026 conference, reflecting a healthy blend of new opportunities and repeat relationships.

For Rogers Centre Ottawa, growth is particularly strong in sectors where one successful event has led to others. Indigenous events are a strong example. Following WAVES 2025, the Global Indigenous Languages Summit at the centre last summer, the venue has seen growing interest from organisers looking for a convention centre that can support cultural protocols and create a more thoughtful delegate experience. Rogers Centre Ottawa works with clients on considerations such as smudging, drum circles, Indigenous chefs and culturally relevant menu offerings, helping events feel authentic to the communities they serve.

Engineering and technology conferences are another area where momentum is building. IEEE events have helped demonstrate the strength of Ottawa’s research, innovation and technical talent, while also showing how a more focused account management, with sector specialists, can build confidence and deepen relationships over time. That is helping create new opportunities in sectors where the city already has strong credentials and long-term appeal.

The rise in new business is also contributing to a busier calendar overall, with early summer dates attracting particularly strong demand. Months that were once seen as more negotiable are now drawing significant interest from organisers looking for a capital city destination that offers accessibility, walkability and value, without sacrificing profile or experience.

“Rogers Centre Ottawa is seeing real momentum from conferences that may never have considered Ottawa before, alongside organisers who arrive for one event and leave seeing the city as the right fit for another,” said Carly Grace, Vice-President of Sales at Rogers Centre Ottawa. “When a sector sees that the venue, destination and local expertise all align, that success tends to build on itself. That is exactly what we are seeing now.”

Working closely with Ottawa Tourism, hotel partners and stakeholders across the city, Rogers Centre Ottawa continues to convert that interest into long-term relationships that support both the venue and the wider visitor economy.

As more organisers look beyond the largest gateway cities for availability, value and a more connected delegate experience, Rogers Centre Ottawa is increasingly well positioned to benefit, offering a combination of flexibility, partnership and destination appeal that is helping new sectors grow.
